CNC Turning

Heavy-duty precision turning built for production.

Montgomery Precision operates two Daewoo Puma 10S CNC turning centers, providing a rigid, repeatable platform for precision cylindrical components, difficult materials, and production work.

Our two-machine turning cell gives us the flexibility to dedicate machines to different operations, maintain repeat production setups, and increase throughput when quantities grow.

Built around heavy-duty construction and proven Fanuc controls, the Puma 10S is a production-oriented turning platform capable of taking demanding cuts while maintaining the stability required for precision finishing.

Rigid, durable, repeatable.

Our turning department includes:

Machines & control

  • 2× Daewoo Puma 10S CNC lathes
  • Fanuc 0T and Fanuc 11T controls
  • 2-axis CNC turning
  • X and Z simultaneous machining
  • Automated turning cycles

Construction & workholding

  • Hydraulic chucking
  • Heavy-duty slant-bed construction
  • Rigid box-way design
  • Multi-station automatic turrets
  • High-torque spindle systems
  • Production-oriented chip management

These machines are designed around rigidity, durability, and repeatability — the characteristics we want in equipment intended to run production parts consistently.

Work envelope & machine capacity

A substantial working range.

Our Daewoo Puma 10S turning centers provide a substantial working range for precision cylindrical components.

This capacity allows us to support a wide range of turned components, including shafts, bushings, sleeves, gear blanks, adapters, housings, tooling components, and other cylindrical production parts.

Actual part capacity depends on workholding, geometry, tooling clearance, material, and machining requirements.

Precision turning

Precision features to approximately 0.0002 inch.

Our Puma turning centers are capable of producing precision features to approximately 0.0002 inch under appropriate machining, workholding, inspection, and process conditions.

Depending on the application, we can support precision requirements involving:

  • Outside diameters
  • Inside diameters and bores
  • Concentric features
  • Shoulders
  • Faces
  • Grooves
  • Threads
  • Tapers
  • Multi-diameter profiles
  • Precision finished surfaces

Rigid machine construction, controlled workholding, and repeatable setups allow us to maintain dimensional consistency from part to part.

Materials we machine

Conventional and demanding materials.

Our turning centers have been used to machine both conventional and demanding materials. Experience includes:

Annealed steels Pre-hardened steels Stainless steels Aluminum Engineering plastics Stellite Select hard and high-performance alloys

Pre-hardened steels and materials such as Stellite place significant demands on tooling, machine rigidity, and process control. The heavy construction of the Puma platform gives us a stable foundation for machining these materials while maintaining controlled cutting conditions.

Fanuc 0T & Fanuc 11T controls

Proven industrial turning control.

Our two Puma 10S machines are equipped with proven Fanuc 0T and Fanuc 11T CNC controls. These controls provide reliable industrial turning capability for programmed production work.

  • Simultaneous X and Z axis control
  • CNC turning and facing
  • Boring
  • Grooving
  • Threading
  • Roughing and finishing cycles
  • Tool offsets
  • Repeat production programs
  • G-code and M-code programming
  • Automated machining cycles

The Fanuc 11T platform also provides enhanced processing and programming capability for more complex turning profiles and manufacturing sequences.

Built for tough materials

Mass and structural rigidity.

Machine rigidity becomes increasingly important when machining harder steels and wear-resistant alloys. The Puma 10S platform provides the mass and structural rigidity required for aggressive and controlled material removal.

This makes our turning equipment well suited for work involving:

  • Pre-hardened steel
  • Hard alloys
  • Interrupted cuts
  • Heavy roughing
  • Precision boring
  • Finish turning
  • Components requiring both substantial material removal and accurate finishing

These are not lightweight toolroom lathes. They are robust turning centers built to perform under production conditions.

Two machines. Better production flow.

An important production advantage.

Instead of relying on a single turning center for every operation, we can distribute work between machines based on the needs of the project. This allows us to:

  • Run multiple jobs simultaneously
  • Separate roughing and finishing operations when appropriate
  • Maintain repeat setups
  • Increase production throughput
  • Reduce scheduling bottlenecks
  • Support larger quantities
  • Respond more effectively to repeat orders
  • Keep production moving while another setup is being prepared

For multi-operation components, the two-machine configuration can also support an efficient production flow where different operations are assigned to separate machines.

Built for repeatability

The same result, repeatedly.

Production machining is not only about making one good part. The process must be capable of producing the same result repeatedly. Our turning process focuses on:

  1. 01

    Stable workholding

  2. 02

    Controlled tooling

  3. 03

    Repeatable offsets

  4. 04

    Consistent machining strategies

  5. 05

    Dimensional verification

  6. 06

    Reliable production setups

  7. 07

Process consistency from part to part

The combination of machine rigidity, proven Fanuc controls, and disciplined setup practices allows us to produce clean, consistent, and repeatable turned components.
