Mass Production

Precision manufacturing built for high-volume production.

Montgomery Precision supports mass production requirements for customers that need consistent, repeatable mechanical components delivered on monthly, quarterly, or annual schedules.

Our production equipment is built for sustained manufacturing. With two CNC turning centers, a rigid horizontal machining center, multi-part workholding capability, and qualified outside processing partners, we can support production programs that require large quantities, tight tolerances, secondary operations, and dependable delivery.

Our goal is simple: produce the same high-quality part over and over again, at scale.

Tight tolerances at production scale

Stable across hundreds or thousands of pieces.

Mass production requires more than producing one accurate component. The process must remain stable across hundreds or thousands of pieces.

~0.0002"

Under appropriate machining, workholding, inspection, and process conditions, our equipment is capable of maintaining critical features within approximately 0.0002 inch.

Our production processes focus on:

  1. 01

    Consistent critical dimensions

  2. 02

    Repeatable bores

  3. 03

    Controlled diameters

  4. 04

    Concentricity

  5. 05

    Stable feature locations

  6. 06

    Surface consistency

  7. 07

    Repeatable workholding

  8. 08

    Controlled tooling

  9. 09

    In-process inspection

  10. 10

    Tool wear monitoring & compensation

The objective is to maintain dimensional consistency from the first part through the final part of the production run.

Production equipment

Built for production flow.

Having two production lathes gives us additional flexibility when supporting larger quantities. We can:

  • Run multiple jobs simultaneously
  • Divide operations between machines
  • Maintain dedicated repeat setups
  • Increase throughput
  • Reduce production bottlenecks
  • Support scheduled releases
  • Respond to urgent repeat orders
  • Balance roughing & finishing operations

For multi-operation turned components, one machine can be dedicated to an initial operation while the second supports subsequent machining, creating a more efficient production flow.

Horizontal milling for repeat production

Fortune HV500 horizontal machining center

Our horizontal machining center is particularly well suited for production environments. Its capabilities include:

4-axis machining Rotary B-axis positioning Twin-pallet configuration Tombstone machining Multi-part fixtures Multi-sided machining Repeatable positioning Heavy-duty cutting Production-oriented setups

Multi-part workholding allows multiple components to be loaded and machined within a single production cycle, helping improve throughput while reducing repeated setup activity. The horizontal platform also allows several sides of a component to be machined without repeatedly removing and refixturing the part.

From prototype to mass production

Many programs begin with a handful of components.

Montgomery Precision can support the entire manufacturing progression:

Prototype Testing Validation Short Run Production Process Optimization Mass Production

Because we support both prototype and production machining, manufacturing knowledge developed during the early stages of a project can be carried forward as quantities increase. This can include the items at right. The result is a smoother transition into higher-volume manufacturing.

  • Proven workholding
  • Established CNC programs
  • Verified tooling
  • Known inspection points
  • Material requirements
  • Secondary processing requirements
  • Production documentation

Dedicated production tooling

Optimized for repeat production.

As quantities increase, manufacturing methods can be optimized specifically for repeat production. Depending on the project, Montgomery Precision can develop:

  • Dedicated fixtures
  • Custom soft jaws
  • Multi-part workholding
  • Tombstone fixtures
  • Production aids
  • Dedicated tooling strategies
  • Operation-specific setups
  • Standardized inspection methods

The objective is to reduce unnecessary handling, minimize setup time, and create a stable process capable of producing parts efficiently over long production runs.

Production inspection

Quality control continues throughout the run.

Depending on the project, our inspection process can include the checks below. Inspection frequency is established based on component complexity, tolerance requirements, production quantity, and customer specifications.

Materials for production machining

Demanding materials, controlled conditions.

Depending on project requirements and process suitability, we can support production machining in materials including:

Aluminum Carbon steels Alloy steels Pre-hardened steels Stainless steels Titanium Engineering plastics High-performance plastics Select hard & specialty alloys

Our experience with rigid production equipment also allows us to support demanding materials that require controlled cutting conditions and stable machining processes.

Secondary operations & finishing

One manufacturing partner.

High-volume components often require several manufacturing processes before they are ready for assembly. Through our internal capabilities and qualified manufacturing network, Montgomery Precision can coordinate secondary operations such as:

  • Anodizing
  • Hardcoat anodizing
  • Plating
  • Passivation
  • Heat treatment
  • Grinding
  • Gear cutting
  • Surface finishing
  • Protective coatings
  • Welding
  • Fabrication
  • Other drawing-specified processes

By coordinating these operations as part of the production plan, customers can work with one manufacturing partner instead of managing multiple disconnected suppliers.

Quality documentation & traceability

Formal documentation when required.

Production programs may require formal documentation beyond standard dimensional inspection. Depending on customer requirements, Montgomery Precision can support:

  • Material certifications
  • Certificates of Conformance
  • Inspection reports
  • First Article Inspection support
  • CMM inspection through qualified partners
  • Special process certifications
  • Lot traceability
  • Drawing & revision control
  • Production records
  • Customer-specific documentation requirements

Documentation requirements should be identified during the RFQ process so they can be incorporated into the manufacturing plan.

Scheduled production programs

Aligned with your actual demand.

Mass production does not always mean shipping every component at once. We can support manufacturing programs based around:

Monthly releases Quarterly releases Annual requirements Blanket purchase orders Repeat production schedules Customer-defined delivery quantities Phased production Scheduled replenishment

This allows production to be aligned with the customer's actual demand while maintaining a proven manufacturing process for future releases.

Reducing cost through process improvement

Efficiency grows with quantity.

As production quantities increase, opportunities often exist to improve manufacturing efficiency. Our team can evaluate:

  1. 01

    Setup reduction

  2. 02

    Multi-part workholding

  3. 03

    Tooling optimization

  4. 04

    Cycle-time improvements

  5. 05

    Operation consolidation

  6. 06

    Fixture improvements

  7. 07

    Material utilization

  8. 08

    Production sequencing

  9. 09

    Secondary process coordination

The objective is to reduce unnecessary manufacturing time while preserving the dimensional and quality requirements of the component.

Built for thousands of repeatable parts

Not limited to prototype work.

Our machines are robust production platforms designed to run repeat machining cycles while maintaining consistent results. Montgomery Precision can support production requirements involving:

Hundreds of components Thousands of components Recurring production lots Long-term repeat programs High annual quantities Multiple component families

Actual production capacity depends on component geometry, cycle time, material, tolerance requirements, secondary processing, and delivery schedule.
